One of the very best parts of my work with Speaking Down Barriers is the opportunity to write with the living genius, Marlanda Dekine. Poet, healer, visionary: to write with Marlanda is to open into new understanding with every line penned.
I am honored to have been invited with Marlanda to write a guest post for the Mary Black Foundation on the topic of community health. The short article may be read here.
We write, “It is clear that the concepts of ‘community’ and ‘health’ mean very different things to us all. We live divided by centuries of domination, oppression, and inequity, and the violence and distrust between us can make communication almost impossible…What can we do to heal?”
I offer special thanks to the brilliant Natalia Swanson, who guided and supported us throughout this writing. Natalia is a person who stands with, a person of reflection and strength. I am grateful.
