Three Prayers from a Vigil

April 4, 2014 By Scott Neely Leave a Comment

“There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love.”

–Quoted by Stinson Ferguson from Letter from Birmingham City Jail by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

churn of pollen wind.

disappointment.

the waste

of all the good that would have come

from a generous life.

but the love,

let it come,

let it all come,

the good unceasing,

unstopped

by any mortal limits

A Prayer for Our Community

We pray for our community,

for our life together.

We live in a world with brokenness;

may we be healers.

We live in a world with pain;

may we give compassion.

We live in a world with wrong;

may we find justice.

We live in a world with ugliness;

may we be beauty.

We live in a world with meaninglessness;

may we share the good news

that every life matters

from beginning to end, and long after the end

and that we must care for each other

for any of us to succeed,

friend and stranger alike,

across all differences.

+++

Make us your power

for good

in this place and time,

forever.

Amen.
