Black coffee & peaches
in the morning darkness
as great trees
bow before rain.
+++
My father
bends over his sermon
on the day of his retirement,
readies to serve
communion
one more time.
+++
And elsewhere
and close by
friends
kneel to bow
into this new day
in Ramadan.
+++
I
like so many
who love stories of God
and God’s storytellers
give thanks for all
who share good news
of the Merciful
and Compassionate.
+++
Our rabbi,
our whole town’s rabbi,
sits beside me in the pew
to celebrate my father’s pastorate.
He laughs and cares
for we who are so different.
+++
We believe,
we believe differently,
and we believe.
+++
Again tonight,
fireflies & children
show us
wonder & light.
+++
Ramadan Kareem.
Ramadan Mubarak.
