“After thinking it over, I brought charges against the nobles and the officials; I said to them, ‘You are all taking interest from your own people.'” (Nehemiah 5:7)
Will we listen to the cry for justice, even when our first response is anger?
A sermon on Nehemiah 4 & 5, the story of a skilled city administrator trying to rebuild the defenses of Jerusalem under the threat of imminent attack. But even as this external threat worsens, economic injustice within the very city he serves is destroying the population within, family after family losing their livelihoods and their children.
And here we are. Will we listen?
Offered at Landrum Presbyterian Church on Sunday, September 25, 2016.
