A Prayer for Pentecost

June 7, 2014 By Scott Neely Leave a Comment

(For a congregation & 3 voices)

All: Let us pray.

Voice 1: God our Creator, we give you thanks for the world you have created, and for making us a part of your creation. Move over us as you moved over the dark waters long ago. Form us as you formed the light and dark, the earth and sky, and all life–to praise you with our being. And make us your divine image, creating and serving, in your world. We pray to you.

All: Lord, we pray.

Voice 2: God the Son, Jesus Christ, we give you thanks for living among us. You have shown us the love of God in human form, setting a standard for how we should live and care for one another, and teaching us that God redeems suffering and even sin. You know our wrongs. Forgive us. You know our pain. Heal us. As you did in the heart of Saul, turn our zeal into compassion for all your people. And in the stranger, and in the sick, and in the imprisoned, and in the hungry, and in the thirsty, and in the naked, and in children–in all who are most vulnerable and least –help us to welcome you. We pray to you.

All: Lord, we pray.

Voice 3: God the Holy Spirit, sent by Christ after his resurrection and ascension, animator and instigator of your Church, light us on fire. Fill us with courage. Fill us with energy. Reveal in us gifts we have no idea we have. Do this in us as individuals. Do this in us as families. Do this in us as a family, your family, that all may know that you love us, all of us, and that we are invited to live in your kingdom now and forever. We pray to you.

All: Lord, we pray.
